490,000 youth of remote areas to be imparted training in trades

ISLAMABAD: National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) will provide technical and skill development training to about 490,000 youth living in the remote areas through short-term skill  development project.

This was stated by the Executive Director NAVTTC, Tariq Shafi Chak while addressing the national workshop on “TVET reforms support programme” here on Wednesday.

The main objective of this project was to provide technical training as per international standard in different trades like electrical, mechanical and plumbering.

He informed that NAVTTC in collaboration with GIZ would select 1000 technical centers out of 1500 already providing the training in remote areas of the country and upgrade the syllabus and training of these centers as per international standard.

He said that GIZ on behalf of European Union, Germany and Dutch  governments was providing technical expertise and would also provide Euro 42.4 million.

He further said that this initiative of the government would help the under-privileged youth to find jobs in international markets.

Chak said that Pakistan was rich country especially its human capital and needed to be used constructively adding that youth bulge upto age of 29 comprised of almost 60 percent of the population.

Chak said that Pakistan was already reaping the benefits of manpower export in the shape of remittance which was second largest source of our foreign exchange.

He said that each trainee would be eligible for stipend of Rs.2000 per month during the training period, besides tool kits would be given free to internees after completing training session.
