ISLAMABAD: Meat production during the current fiscal year is likely to reach 3,056 thousand tons as compared to the last year’s production of 2,939 thousand tons showing an increase of about 117 thousand tons.
Beef production is likely to touch 1690 thousand tons during the current financial year as against the last year’s production of 1,625 thousand tonnes, official sources told Pakistan Times here on Friday.
They informed that country was endowed with a large livestock population,well adapted to the local environmental conditions. During the period 2010-11,livestock and fisheries sub-sectors registered a growth of 3.7 and 1.9 percent respectively.
Mutton production are likely to reach 608 thousand tons during the current fiscal year 2011-12, as the compared to last year production of 585 thousand tons, they said. Meanwhile,the poultry production would reach to 758 thousand tons during current financial year as against the last year’s production of 729 thousand tons.
Milk production would reach to 45,883 thousand tons during the year 2011-12 as the its production was recorded at 44,118 thousand tons during the last financial year. Eggs production would reached to 12,308 thousand during the current financial year as against the last year production of 11,834 thousand.
Fish production targets was set on 956 thousand tons for the year 2011-12 while its production was recorded at 264 thousand tons during last year. It is expected that increased meat production would help meeting the rising demands of meat in recent years due to population growth.
