LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Agriculture Malik Ahmed Ali Aulakh has directed the agriculture department to ensure availability of two lakh packets of quality seeds of vegetables with high germination percentage by June 30th, under Chief Minister Punjab’s Kitchen Gardening Programme1.
Presiding over a meeting to review the progress on Kitchen Gardening Program, the minister said that cultivation and use of organic vegetables can be promoted by growing vegetables at domestic level. Director General Agriculture (Extension) Dr. Anjum Ali while briefing the meeting about the progress of the program informed that 70 thousand packets of seed of vegetables out of a total of 2 lakh would be sold by districts governments while the remaining packets would be distributed through agriculture department and allied departments like livestock, forests, fisheries, irrigation as well as universities and NGOs.
He further told that a sum of Rs. 27 lakhs has been released by Market Committee Fund Board to prepare the seed packets. The meeting also decided to include public representatives at tehsil level to further promote the Kitchen Gardening Program.
