Naek appoints Haidri Opposition Leader in Senate

ISLAMABAD:Chairman Senate Farooq H Naek has appointed JUI-F Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri as new Opposition Leader in Senate and has issued notification in this respect. According to details, a meeting was presided over by Chairman Senate Farooq H Naek for the appointment of the new opposition leader in the Senate and it was decided that Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri would be the new opposition leader. A total of 19 senators voted for Haidri including 12 from JUI-F, 5 from FATA and 2 independent senators Abdul Qadir Magsi and Wali Muhammad Badenit.

His rival Senator Ishaq Dar bagged 15 votes including 7 from PML-N, 3 from Jamaat-e-Islami, two from the National Party and one from Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP). Responding to a question the Senate Chairman Farooq H Naek said independent senators from PML-Q had not been included in the process of appointment of the Opposition Leader as Ch Shujaat Hussain had informed him his stance in writing in that connection. Senators from PML-Q had been allotted independent seats.

The new Opposition Leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri said it would be his endeavors to take along all the opposition parties in Senate and prevent the government from taking arbitrary decisions. Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri said, “We will meet all our friends from opposition parties and shall go ahead together. The government’s attempts to divide Opposition would fail.”
While Nayyar Hussain Bukhari leader of House in Senate has said that government has no concern over the appointment of the Opposition Leader in House while it is solely an affair of opposition parties.

While commenting on appointment of new opposition leader in front of the Parliament House, Senator Nayyar H. Bukhari said that Chairman Senate Farooq H. Naek has issued ‘Speaking Order’ comprising on more than one pages for the new Opposition Leader. Opposition parties despite protesting in Senate should read carefully the order. Therefore, he expressed his concern that opposition parties without reading the order started protest.

Responding to the question, Mr. Bukhari said that government has no concern regarding the appointment of Opposition Leader. He further added that opposition parties should resolve their issue by themselves regarding protest and their differences.

Meanwhile, when National Assembly’s session started here on Monday, then upon the request of Speaker NA Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Najam ud Din member NA offered Fateh-e-Khawani for late Hakim Ali Zardari father of President Asif Ali Zardari and those who victimized in various terrorist activities. -Online
