Without education there is no way of progress, peace: Kausar

PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barrister Masood Kausar has said, missionary zeal and spirit is must to serve the field of education and to produce good students, citizens and experts in their respective fields as well.

Addressing as the chief guest at the 15th Convocation of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) at its premises at Topi in District Swabi on Thursday, the Governor said, “if we as a nation want progress, we have to bring change in the mindset of the people which no doubt is impossible without an active role of educational institutions, says a press release. He further observed:

“Let us appreciate innovations and encourage change through development of knowledge which is also must to achieve progress in all fields of life”, he remarked. “Our institutions need to focus of character building of students and make them good citizens”

Engineer Naeemullah Khan and Eng. Fahad Waseem were adjudged over all best students of the session and were honored with the coveted awards of the Institute; the Ghulam Ishaq Khan and the Quaid-e-Azam gold medals. Mr. Jehangir Bashar, Rector of the Institute and the Pro-Rector, Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid also addressed the ceremony wherein all 319 graduates; 297 got Bachelor of Science; nine Master of Science and 13 Ph.D degrees in five disciplines of engineering sciences.

Appreciating the services of faculty of the institute, the Governor said, the present world is focusing on technological advancement and if we want to be in the mainstream, we need to produce capable experts who could act as agents of change.

Congratulating the graduating students, the Governor said, very soon they will assume new role in the society and their intellectual and moral mettle will be tested every day. “ You will have to learn a new lesson and always try to give your best”, he said.

Referring to certain points, raised by the Rector and pro-rector in their address, the Governor assured to take every possible step to make 100 percent increase in the scholarships being sponsored by the provincial government for the students of this institute.

Earlier, the Rector of the Institute, Mr. Jehangir Bashar and Pro-Rector, Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid while welcoming the Governor and guests said that the Institute have produced 22 Ph.D scholars; 201 masters and 400 bachelors in different disciplines of engineering uptill now.

The Institute, they said, is already honoured with ISO -9001 Certificate for quality achievements and 87 research projects by students were displayed during an in-house science fair recently. Presently, it was added, 14 research projects are in progress in the campus out of which three have been sponsored by provincial Science and Technology Department. They further pointed out that six students of the Institute have participated in 16 international level competitions while 13-students and faculty members represented the Institute in various international conferences and moots. -Online
