Kharotabad tragedy, Russian diplomats visit hospital, Tribunal records statements

Quetta: Russian diplomats on Tuesday visited hospital here in provincial capital where dead bodies of 5 foreigners were placed who were shot and killed by FC and police on May 17.

The diplomat told the media that 4 of deceased persons were Russian while one of them was a Tajik. He said that they have not decided yet to take bodies back to Russia or buried them here. On a query, he said the embassy did not know why these people came to Pakistan and whether they were terrorists or not. He said the Russian embassy would wait the conclusion of ongoing investigation into the Kharotabad incident by the Pakistani authorities.

Meanwhile, the inquiry tribunal, headed by judge of the Balochistan High Court, Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar, on Tuesday recorded the statements of witnesses of this incident. The tribune wrapped up its proceeding of its investigation into the incident until Wednesday. According to sources a local journalist also presented a video of the incident according to which a policeman has been shown stealing jewelry from one of the Chechen woman who was killed during the firing.

The chief of the tribunal Justice Mohammad Hashim said that all witnesses giving statements for the Kharotabad incident will be provided complete security. He said that if anyone of the witnesses was threatened, they must come forward and tell the court.-Online
