LAHORE: Punjab Labour Minister Haji Ehsan-ud-Din Qureshi has asked the trade union representatives to create awareness for the elimination of bonded labour, child labour, exploitation of brick kiln workers and laborers’ rights. He said that government is giving top priority to eliminate the menace of bonded labour in brick kilns and combating worst forms of child labour from the province, says press statement received here on Monday .
While talking to the delegation of laborers, Haji Ehsan-ud-Din Qureshi said that Punjab Government has launched a comprehensive strategy to eliminate the curse of bounded labour and under the reform agenda educational & social reforms are being introduced at the brick kilns of the province.
He said that at first stage 170 non-formal schools has been established at brick kilns in District Kasur and Lahore where 5500 male and female students are getting education, whereas, 30 more schools would be inaugurated soon. He told that in order to provide better economic opportunities to the brick kiln laborers, micro-credit scheme has been launched and Rs. 40.8 million soft term loan has been distributed among the laborers.
He said that health camps has also been organized at bhattas and laborers / patients have been provided treatment facilities, whereas, national identity cards has been issued to 3500 bhatta mazdoor. Public awareness campaign may be launched by the NGOs through holding of seminars for the elimination of this curse, labour department will provide all out cooperation in this regard, he concluded.
