China: President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari has said that in 2011 all weather and time-tested relations of Pakistan and China will reach new heights. On his way back from Tokyo, when the President’s plane touched down at Tianjin, China’s fourth largest metropolis, the Mayor of the city, Huang Xingguo, and the Vice Foreign Minister of China, Mr. Zhang Zhijun received him and later called on him for a brief meeting.
Ambassador Masood Khan and Embassy staff received and greeted the President. Vice Foreign Minister, Zhang Zhijun conveyed greetings and good wishes of President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao to President Zardari and assured him that the Chinese government was systematically implementing decisions taken during high-level visits last year.
The President said that 2011 is the friendship year for Pakistan and China. This year we will celebrate our successes and work for deeper engagement in economic cooperation as well as people to people contacts, he said. President Zardari said: “Our friendship is legendary. The foundation for this relationship was laid by our discerning founding fathers. It is now being nurtured by the governments and the people of the two countries.”
The Mayor of Tianjin informed the President that Tianjin is an international harbor and economic center of China maintaining an annual growth rate of nearly 30% of GDP. He invited the President to visit Tianjin during his next trip to China.
Nearly 18000 foreign-funded enterprises have established their branches in Tianjin, bringing along investment of more that US$ 55 billion. In addition, 285 Fortune Global 500 companies have also invested and established offices in Tianjin. President Zardari said that as a major business and communication hub in the region, Tianjin can play an important role in enhancing economic and trade cooperation between Pakistan and China. The Mayor said the city will create space for closer cooperation between Tianjin and major Pakistani urban centers.-ONLINE
