KARACHI: Fouzia Wahab has announced to resign from the post of PPP information secretary. She said this while talking to media men during her visit to media cell at Bilawal House here Saturday. Fouzia Wahab said during her visit to Karachi press club the journalists asked question about Raymond Davis and she had given reply in her personal capacity.
“The presidency spokesman and I had cleared the position about this news item”, she told. However on the next day a petition was filed in Lahore High Court with reference to statement given with regard to Raymond Davis and I was summoned in the court, she added.
“As I had given the statement in personal capacity and it was not party decision, therefore, I deemed it better to resign from my party office rather than going to court, she said. To a question about not being called in core committee meeting of the party Fouzia Wahab said nothing was discussed about her statement in the meeting therefore, she was not summoned therein. “I consider myself as worker of PPP and I am proud being among the aides of President Asif Ali Zardari. I will continue to work as PPP worker”, she declared.
Regarding her press conference on Raymond Davis, Fauzia said her statements did not reflect the policy of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and that they were her personal views. In her February 14 press conference, Fauzia had stated that U.S. national Raymond Davis had a diplomatic visa and he could neither be arrested nor kept in custody under the Vienna Convention. “He (Davis) is a technical member of the U.S. embassy’s diplomatic staff and according to Pakistani laws, any diplomat and technical or administrative staff cannot be arrested or taken into custody,” she had told reporters at the Karachi Press Club
Meanwhile The former federal information minister, Qamar Zaman Kaira appointed as central Secretary Information Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) replacing Fauzia Wahab who resigned from the post earlier on Saturday.
