Pakhtuns have been passing through critical juncture: Sherpao

Peshawar: Chairman, Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao), Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has said that Pakhtuns have been passing through critical juncture and concerted struggle would help end their miseries. He said that Pakhtun was the second largest population in Pakistan but they had not been accorded due status which increased their uncertainty.
He said this while talking to a delegation of Pushto Alami Congress which called on him at Peshawar.

The delegation was led by Shahab uddin Khattak. The delegation apprised Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao about the aims and objectives of the congress and its forth coming world conference to be held on 29th, 30th April and Ist May, 2011. PPP-S Chairman assured all-out support to the Congress and said that the conference would have very positive impacts in the region.

Aftab Sherpao said that Pakhtun had been instrumental in the uplift of the country and their positive contribution could not be ignored. He maintained that the Pakhtuns had been pushed to the wall as they had been target of violence. He said that the Pakhtuns had a great role and denial of their due status would not serve any purpose. He said that the Congress had taken up a gigantic task for enhancing the true image of Pakhtuns their century’s old traditions. He contended that the Pakhtuns code of life was a fountain of wisdom and instrumental for restoration of peace. He said that Pakhtuns were brave nation however their image had been tarnished in the comity of nations which should be improved through collective efforts. He believed that people belonging to all walks of life should get united to combat the current crisis.

He regretted that Pakhtuns both in Pakistan and Afghanistan had been in turmoil due to the unabated acts of violence. He said that the socio-economic conditions of Pakhtuns were deteriorating day by day and there was urgent need to review the situation for suggesting ways and means for re-construction and rehabilitation.

He called upon intelligentsia to come forward and play their role for highlighting the positive aspects of Pakhtun society and work for the promotion of their cultural heritage and peace in the region.

On this occasion PPP-S Provincial President, Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, PPP-S leader Assad Afridi and leaders of Pushto Alami Congress, Aseer Mangal, Liaqat Amin, Fareedon Khan, Ejaz Durrani, Muhammad Nisar Advocate, Ajmal Musazai, Arbab Sabir Hayat Khalid Ayub and Fazal Raziq were also present.-ONLINE
