LONDON: Former president Pervez Musharraf has said attempts are being made to browbeat him in the name of probe into assassination of Benazir Bhutto while those at the helm of affairs are beneficiaries of this incident. He said this while expressing his views in a private TV channel program here. Pervez Musharraf held he could not undertake several assignments due to 9/11 attacks while he had no malafide intention.
“I had not imposed martial law. Mir Zafar Ullah Jamali could not run the government therefore, Shaukat Aziz had to be brought”, he remarked. Had Benazir Bhutto not returned to Pakistan, PML-Q would have been in power at present, he underlined.
He went on to say Chaudhry Shujaat was of the view that his defeat was engineered. “But it is absolutely incorrect. Whenever some one meets defeat he says so”, he added.
Pervez Musharraf stated he wanted to run the government as a civilian president for five years and he had let Sharif brothers go to London. Former president said he was president of Pakistan till March, 2007 but his decision to suspend chief justice of Pakistan dented his popularity.
Benazir Bhutto was informed about security threats and the situation had deteriorated due to her assassination, he underlined. “It is not job of president to provide security to any one, he remarked. Jialas of PPP had taken the charge of security of Benazir Bhutto, he said adding the movements of Khalid Shahinshah who was deployed on the security of Benazir Bhutto were highly suspicious.
“During my tenure the country made progress. If I am given a chance again I will undertake the same works I have done earlier”, he held.-ONLINE
