ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR: Pakistan Army services have been acquired for upcoming census to be started from next month. According to sources, the phase of survey of houses would be conducted in the country in the end of this month and March, while the entire process of census would be completed during September and October this year.
The services of officials of various departments were also obtained for the census of population and houses and the arrangements were completed for the census in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. However, there is possibility of the postponement of the census in some parts of the tribal area.
The sources further stated that eighty thousand personnel of the army and fifty thousand employees of different departments would be taking part in the census process and Council of Common Interest would approve it in its meeting to be held in March 01.The seats of the National Assembly and provincial assemblies would be increased after results of the census. The recommendations about postponement of the census in tribal areas were submitted to Chief Commissioner of Census.
This was decided in a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Justice ® Hamid Ali Khan on Tuesday to overview the matter of compilation of computerized voting lists. Secretary Statistic Division Asif Bajwa, Chairman NADRA Ali Arshad Hakeem, Deputy Chairman Tariq Malik, and Secretary ECP Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan and other officials attended the meeting
CEC directed the Statistic Division and NADRA to further enhance the coordination so to ensure compilation of computerized ballot lists. During the course of the meeting, Secretary Statistics Division told soft copy of data pertaining to voters of 60 districts is available with department while remaining 40 percent is in hard copy. He said NADRA ensured to provide the soft copy of all blocks in June, this year.
He recommended commencing door-to-door campaign for the preparation of new voting lists so Statistic Division might finalize the lists pertaining to remaining blocks. Chairman NADRA, Ali Arshad Hakeem told due to some uncertain reasons, the process couldn’t be instigated in May. Later in the meeting the proposed process was delayed till first week of June.
Secretary ECP, Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan told final approval of bill related to requisition of NIC for balloting vote is to be expected by the end of this month, as senate body has already approved it.-ONLINE
