Raja Pervez condemns Shah Mahmood’s assertions about Raymond Davis

ISLAMABAD: Secretary General Peoples Party Parliamentarians, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that tone and tenor of Shah Mehmood Qureshi indicates that another Leghari is in the making in the party, But, “Mr. Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s fate will not be different than that of Leghari”. Reacting to the comments of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Former Foreign Minister who was not included in the new Federal Cabinet, appearing in section of the press, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that Peoples Party is a grass root party, ruling over the hearts and minds of the people and has grown from strength to strength with the passage of time.

“Mr. Shah Mahmood should realize and keep the example of Farooq Leghari in mind. He should also realize that the party always gives a fair chance of giving inputs regarding any decision and so was the case when the party took decision to downsize the cabinet. Every one of us including Mr. Qureshi took part in the decision making process at different forums, such as core committee’s meeting and Central Executive Committee meeting and this was unanimously agreed to curtail the size of the cabinet”, he added.

Raja Pervez Ashraf said that he Shah Mehmood Qureshi must realize that his efforts to pressurize the party shall never become a reality as the party does not owe its strength to individuals but to the people of Pakistan. It seems that Shah Mahmood Qureshi has joined the band wagon of political actors hatching conspiracies against the party leadership but this new conspiracy would also fail like the previous ones, he added.

Raja Pervez Ashraf said that it was quite strange that Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s revelations about Raymond Davis case have come only after his exclusion from the cabinet, where as the incident is in the news for the past few weeks about which the top leadership has categorically stated that the matter will be decided by the courts. President Asif Ali Zardari in his meeting with U.S. Congressional delegation made it clear to the whole world that Raymond Davis case was pending in the court and now it was the court to decide the matter, he said.

“The Prime Minister has also repeatedly stated on the floor of the Parliament that the case is to be decided by the court of law and there is no ambiguity or confusion as far as the government’s stance is concerned”, Raja Ashraf added. Raja Pervez Ashraf questioned the veracity of disclosures by Mr. Shah Mahmood Qureshi and also said that Mr. Qureshi was insisting to keep the portfolio of Foreign Affairs though he was offered Ministry of Water and Power.

This showed, Raja Pervez Ashraf said, that Mr, Qureshi’s conscience awakened to the call of his personal interest and not in the national interest as he is trying to prove by feeding false stories to the media. Raja Pervez Ashraf also quarried that why Shah Mehmood Qureshi expressed his differences with the government after issuance of arrest warrants of General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf by the courts in Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s case.-APP
