Islamabad: The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Thursday welcomed the resignation of the Cabinet to form a smaller one saying it is a good step to reduce expanses of the government. New Cabinet should be focused on economic well being of masses, it said.
Government should try to bring fundamental change as opting for window-dressing will hurt its standing, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW. Masses should get some relief otherwise, efforts of the government may meet failure triggering mass frustration, he warned.
Crisis of good governance is not limited to the size of the overloaded Cabinet but it has plagued all the key sectors calling for sweeping reforms to tackle financial crunch, he said. He said that heads of all corporations inflicting a loss of Rs 500 billion to exchequer should also be replaced with honest, capable and professional leaders.
State-run corporations that have doubled and tripled losses in last few years need immediate attention of the government, he said. Reforms in FBR and a just taxation system can also help government earn some trillions that can be used to soothe masses, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal.-Pakistan Economy Watch
