ISLAMABAD: Former Test Cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz Tuesday joined Muttehida Qaumi Movement here in Islamabad He announced his decision to quit Pakistan People’s Party and join MQM at a joint Press conference addressed by MQM leaders including Dr. Farooq Sattar, Babar Ghauri and Raza Haroon.
Sarfaraz Nawaz who served slain Prime Minsiter Benazir Bhutto as Advisor on Sports said, “present PPP is involved in deep corruption that has endangered national institutions to larger extents. My decision to join MQM is primarily meant to weed out corruption from society.”
Sarfaraz Nawaz said the MQM was a party of middle class and it alone can salvage Pakistan from mismanagement and corruption. Dr. Farooq Sattar said the MQM was a national party and it now intends to establish itself in all parts of Punjab. He said MQM alone can serve the cause of downtrodden.
Talking to Pakistan Times, Sarfraz nawaz said his only intention to join MQM was to work for poor, who have been suffering since inception of Pakistan and MQM is the only party that has agenda to serve poor people of Pakistan. Whereas no political party has done any good for them. He further said MQM resigned from minister but didn’t compromise their commitment to work for poor people of Pakistan.
Analysts say that MQM is gaining strength in Punjab. In recent months few more additions are expected.
