LAHORE: A doctor says Shumaila; wife of one of the Pakistani men Faheem allegedly shot and killed by an U.S. Embassy employee Raymond Davis; had committed suicide by eating rat poison, Dunya News quoted. Ali Naqi, a doctor in Faisalabad city treating Shumaila Kanwal, said she told him she took the poison Sunday because she believed her husband’s suspected killer will be freed without trial. According to sources, Shumaila committed suicide because she was not expecting justice in Raymond Davis case.
The U.S. has said the American official, identified by Pakistanis as Raymond Davis, has diplomatic immunity and is being illegally detained. He has told a Pakistani court that he acted in self-defense on Jan. 27 when he shot two armed men trying to rob him at gunpoint as he drove his car in the eastern city of Lahore. Police say they are pursuing possible murder charges.
Faheem’s brother told that the dead body of Shumaila is not being handed over to the family despite the protest. After Shumaila’s death, heavy contingent of police surrounded Allied Hospital and evacuated the ward whereas, Elite Force were deployed near the main gate of the hospital.
