OIC expresses its solidarity with the Kashmiri People and stresses the need for a Peaceful Dialogue and Negotiation between the concerned Parties. The Assistant Secretary General for political affairs of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), Ambassador Abdullah Alim who is the Special Representative of the OIC Secretary General to Jammu and Kashmir, underscored the Organization’s full solidarity with the people of Kashmir, and its continued support for their struggle to get their full legitimate rights.
He emphasized the OIC’s clear and consistent position which is of the view that violence will not lead to a lasting solution to the conflict in Kashmir. He asserted that the solution lies in fostering dialogue and peaceful negotiation between the parties concerned, including the Kashmiri people. Ambassador Alim said this In a speech at the annual ceremony organized by the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Jeddah on Saturday, 5 February, 2011 to commemorate the day of solidarity with the Kashmiri people, in the presence of Consul General of Pakistan in Jeddah, Mr. Abdul-Saliq Khan, representatives of Pakistani and Kashmiri communities and also a number of officials in Saudi Arabia and diplomats.
Ambassador Alim praised Pakistan’s commitment to the peace process, hoping that the Indian Government will show its willingness to adopt the same approach towards creating a final and lasting solution to the long-standing dispute. In the same context, he emphasized that this meeting and other meetings held to support Kashmiri people, are seen as a renewed opportunity to express the OIC’s continued stand alongside the people of Kashmir. He clarified that the Organization has been working to capitalize on all occasions to highlight struggles of Kashmiri people and mobilize greater
support and solidarity in various international forums.
Ambassador Alim announced that he will pay a visit to Jammu and Kashmir in the near future to express directly support of the OIC to the Kashmiri people with the Organization and to learn about the latest developments. He added that the Kashmiri people have suffered from the ravages of conflict and occupation for years and they deserve to obtain their legitimate rights to self-determination and to live in peace and security. He also emphasized that the OIC is convinced that a lasting solution to the dispute over this territory would promote regional and international peace and security.
