SAO PAULO, BRAZIL: The 30th edition of Sao Paulo Fashion Week kicked off on Friday as Brazil’s top designers showcased their latest creations. Four brands staged parades on the opening day, but U.S. celebrity Paris Hilton stole the show. All eyes and cameras were on the 29-year-old hotel heiress as she walked down the catwalk for Brazilian brand Triton.
As soon as Hilton stepped onto the catwalk with a provocative white dress, she drew a loud applause from the audience. But unlike last year, Hilton avoided sending kisses to the audience and walked straight past the photographers and cameramen. She opened the parade wearing a long-sleeved black dress with bright yellow details and later reappeared with a shiny platinum dress.
Fashion consultant Lucia Arteiro said she adored Hilton’s performance. “They can say bad things about her, but I think she’s great, she’s the best. I think it was great that Triton brought Paris Hilton. She’s like a Barbie doll,” she said.
Fashion reporter Victoria Goes said the public focused more on Hilton than on the actual outfits. “I believe the star of the show was Paris. I had never seen such a commotion when a model walked down the runway, so I think people didn’t focus much on the actual collection,” she said.
Designer Tufi Duek, one of Brazil’s most renowned, took a touch of haute couture to the catwalk. His parade featured outfits with geometric cuts which mixed leather with lighter fabrics. Thirty-one Brazilian designers will present their upcoming collections throughout the week.-Reuters
