Islamabad: Pakistan Foreign Office Woman Association (PFWA) Friday presented an assistance cheque of Rs45, 78, 000 to Pakistan Navy, in support to ongoing relief and reconstruction activities in flood-hit areas by Pakistan Navy. In this regard a simple but impressive ceremony was organized at Pakistan Naval Headquarters, Islamabad today in which Mrs Taranum Bashir, chairperson PFWA, presented a cheque to Naval Chief, Admiral Noman Bashir.
Addressing on the occasion the chairperson commended the rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts of Pakistan Navy and said that Pakistan Navy has come up to the expectations of the nation. She said that the relief amount was contributed by the members of the association and it would be utilized in reconstruction of 42 houses in the area of Sajawal.
She further said that PFWA and Pakistan Navy Woman Association had been enjoying cordial collaboration in various other domains and both would further enhance mutual cooperation for the common objectives. Foreign Secretary, Salman Bashir at the event termed the contribution as an example that women of Pakistan are equally participative in played a vital role in relief activities.
He said Pakistani nation as a whole have addressed the worst situation caused by unprecedented flood in best ways. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir said that Pakistan Navy is committed and dedicated to serve the nation and would continue its activities in future.
Elaborating the naval operations, the Naval Chief said Pakistan Navy has successfully launched early rescue and relief operation in Phase I, and in Phase II, he said reconstruction and rehabilitation projects are underway in which reconstruction of houses, health clinics etc would be given priority.
Earlier, the audience was given a comprehensive briefing on the on going relief operations by Pakistan Navy, which was highly appreciated by the audience. The event was attended by officials from Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Foreign Office and members from women associations of Foreign Office and Pakistan Navy.-NNI
