LAHORE: The 967th Urs celebrations of Hazrat Ali Hajveri RA (Hazarat Data Gunj Bakhsh) continue in full swing here. Thousands of the followers and devotees from different parts of the country have reached the shrine to pay homage to Data sahib. The Urs celebrations will continue till January 25.
Hundreds of sabeels (stalls) of water and milk have been set up by the business community and Langar (free meal) is being distributed as per the tradition among the devotees during the Urs, which will continue for three days. The first day ceremonies included a mehfil-e-qirat, speeches by ulema(scholars) at the Data Darbar shrine, which continued until midnight followed by the prayers for the solidarity and integrity of Pakistan.
Extensive security measures have been taken by security agencies to avoid any untoward incident, however, the administration concerned couldn’t control the traffic mess, which was quite frequent on the first day.
More than 500 clerics, over 200 leaders of monastic orders and several sajjada nasheens of renowned sufis in Pakistan and India including Syed Muhammad Bilal Chishti of Ajmair Sharif, Deewan Syed Tahir Nizami of Delhi, and Khawaja Fariddudin Fakhari have arrived in the city to attend the event.
As many as 200 workers have been tasked with keeping the Darbar premises clean, while camp offices of different departments, including WAPDA, WASA, Civil Defence and have been set up for the urs. First aid facility will also be available to cope with emergencies.
