Physical remand of police officers arrested in Benazir assassination case extended for 10 days

RAWALPINDI: On the request of FIA, Rana Nisar Ahmad judge of Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) No 3 here has extended physical remand of two police officers arrested in Benazir Bhutto assassination case. Officers of FIA investigation team including special prosecutor Muhammad Azhar Chaudhry and Chaudhry Zulfiqar produced former PCO Saud Aziz and former SP Rawal division Khurram Shahzad in ATC on expiry of 8-day remand period.

FIA officers requested the court to extend the physical remand of the accused persons taking the plea they had provided mobile phones and sims to FIA which were used by them during 2008 while the mobile phones and sims which remained under their use on December, 27, 2007 were yet to be recovered from them.

Saud Aziz told the court FIA was investigating him in respect of a mobile cell about which nothing was known to him. “I have handed over the mobile cells which remained under my use, he said.

Malik Rafiq and Malik Wahid Anjum counsels for Saud Aziz told the court FIA officers could not complete their investigation from their client even after the physical remand was extended twice. Saud Aziz had handed over to FIA all the mobile cells which were used by him, therefore, the request of FIA for extension of remand be rejected, they prayed. ONLINE
