Taliban release video of abducted VC Ajmal Khan

PESHAWAR: Tehreek-e-Taliban has released the video of Islamia College University Peshawar Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Ajmal Khan, who was abducted on September 7, 2010. The abductors have confessed in the video that the Tehreek-e-Taliban had kidnapped the Professor on Sept 7 while he was on the way to his office. In the video, the Professor has said that as he is the relative of Awami National Party Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan and he has been supporting operations against the Taliban that is why he is abducted.

He has said despite the passage of more than a month with the abductors, no step for his release has been taken on the part of the government. He appealed to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Owais Ahmad Ghani, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and the ANP Chief Asfandyar to take steps for his release.

He also appealed to the Vice Chancellors, teacher community, and students to press the government to start efforts for his release from the abductors. He said he was a heart patient and his long stay with the Taliban could badly affect his health. He asked his family to request the government for his release and said the government should hold talks with the Taliban and settle their issues.-SANA
