BAHAWALPUR: Police have claimed to arrest seven terrorists, belonging to Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, allegedly planning to assassinate Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, from Ahmedpur East, Bahawalpur. Seven men arrested from Moza Chakwahni are members of Qari Imran Group of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, RPO Syed Muhammad Qadri told media.
He said the terrorists revealed that they were planning to murder the PM, FM, besides hitting PM House, Multan, Ghazi Ghat Pul, Taunsa Barrage, Cantt area, Dera Nawab and other key places. The held alleged terrorists included Abdul Raheem alias Talha, Muhammad Afzal, Hafiz Salman alias Amjad, Sajjad Ahmed, Muhammad Saleem, Bilal and Mufti Munawwar Hussain. The RPO assured that more terrorists would be arrested soon.
Meanwhile Bahawalpur police have held six persons in connection with attack on the office of a sensitive institution in Multan on December 8, 2009, and various other terrorist incidents. According to DPO Bahawalpur Babar Bakht Qureshi, six persons were arrested for attack on office of a sensitive institution on December 8, killing five persons in a terrorist act in Kacha Kho, and dacoit incident in Jalalpur.
He said three persons riding a motorcycle were stopped at a police picket on Kachehri Road in Tehsil Ahmadpur Sharqia and gold, cash and arms were recovered from their possession. He said the investigation revealed the three accused were involved in various terrorist acts adding they pointed out their three accomplices who were also arrested. The arrested men belonged to Qari Imran Group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban and their group commander was Abdul Rehman allies Talha, he added.-SANA
