PM apprises President of PML-N reservations on appointment of chairman NAB

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani during a one on one meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari here in Aiwan-e-Sadr has exchanged views with the latter on overall political situation of the country besides apprising the President of the reservations of PML-N on appointment of NAB chairman.

According to Aiwan-e-Sadr sources a set of issues related to important cases including NRO case pending hearing with Supreme Court, appointment of chairman NAB and reservations expressed by opposition on this count, rehabilitation of flood victims and reconstruction of flood ravaged areas featured in the meeting.

Sources revealed President Asif Ali Zardari said all the constitutional and state institutions should work within their respective parameters. All the legal formalities were met and consultation process completed in connection with appointment of chairman NAB, he added.

President held that he appointed Deedar Hussain Shah as NAB chairman by exercising his legal powers. Government did not believe in any political victimization or political accountability, he maintained. There should be across the board accountability of those who indulged in corruption, he stressed. Newly appointed chairman NAB would ensure it, he remarked. Prime Minister apprised the president of PML-N reservations on the appointment of chairman NAB.

The NRO related cases pending hearing in the courts also came under discussion. President held government would take constitutional and legal course with regard to these cases. “I have already issued directives in this regard. We don’t want any confrontation ”, president told.

Prime minister also held consultations with president at length about shuffling in cabinet. Prime minister will take certain important decisions in this respect within a few days and in line with these decisions the portfolios of certain ministers will be changed. The size of cabinet is also likely to be reduced.-ONLINE
