ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the appointment of Chairman NAB is discretionary power of the President and he exercised this power. Talking to newsmen in Murree today he said under instructions of the President, leader of the opposition was consulted twice on the issue of appointment of Chairman NAB.
He said names of Syed Deedar Hussain and Mukhtar Junejo were presented to the leader of the opposition but he rejected both of them. When his attention was drawn towards challenging of the appointment by the opposition in Lahore High Court, he said opposition was within its right to do so.
To a question the Prime Minister said during his meeting with the President and the Prime Minister, the Army Chief did not ask about reshuffling of the Federal Cabinet.
While addressing 150th Founders Day celebrations of Lawrance College at Ghora Gali in Marri Friday, Prime Minister Gillani said that only those nations could live successful today who have the power of knowledge to meet the global demands of education.
The Prime Minister said Lawrance College is successfully meeting the modern day challenges. He said we are living in a world that is confronting numerous challenges. He said the developed world has reached its present place due to high rate of literacy and productivity. He said with tolerance we would be able to bring positive changes in our society.
Gillani said that terrorism and extremism are greatest challenges for state and the society and we need to defeat this mindset. He said this is possible when our schools, acadmics, scholars and religious leaders come forward and give their inputs to defeat the mince of extremism.
He said our schools, colleges and universities must become the hub of ideas for modern learning. The Prime Minister said that our society should be based on free values and everyone has equal opportunity irrespective of their caste, creed and colour and religion. He commended the construction of a staff colony.
The Prime Minister announced assistance for the construction of an all weather swimming pool and three day holidays for the college students. The Prime Minister said a coin marking the 150th anniversary of Lawrance College will be issued.-SANA
