ISLAMABAD: Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani ordered an inquiry on Friday into video clips posted on internet that show men in military uniforms torturing six young men in civilian dress. The COAS said in a statement that he has ordered setting up of a board of inquiry to establish the true identity of uniformed personnel and the veracity of the video footage.
The inquiry board would be set up headed by a Major General and two to three senior officers who have experience investigating such unidentified reports and incidents.
“The footage is grainy and shows no time stamps, and part of the army inquiry’s mission is to determine whether those shown in uniform were actually soldiers, ” Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani’s statement said.
Expressing his determination General Kiyani to take strictest possible disciplinary action against the perpetrators, if identified to be soldiers of Pakistan Army, he termed the incident as unacceptable under any circumstances. He emphasized that Rules of Engagement (ROE) are sacrosanct.
General Kayani also directed commanders at all levels to be vigilant and follow the Army policy of zero tolerance in such cases in true letter and spirit.-SANA
