ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Highway Authority Altaf Ahmad Chaudhry has said that Mirpur Khas-Khokhra Par highway project will be undertaken next year. Transportation of NATO & ISAF containers has caused loss to the tune of Rs. 6 Billion to NHA network. He expressed these views while addressing the participants of 93rd National Management Course led by Mr. Rahat-ul-Ain-Dean of National Management College, who visited NHA headoffice, here on Tuesday.
Apprising the visiting guests, Mr. Altaf Ahmad Chaudhry said that total length of NHA network is 11900 Kms throughout the country. Presently work on 66 Projects of 4400 Km length is in progress at cost of Rs. 243 Billion. Likewise, he said, 66 projects are planned for the future which will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 530 Billion.
Mirpur Khas – Khokhra Par highway project, he said, stands among priorities and work on this project will be started next year. The project will help further improve transportation with neighboring India.
Speaking about the use of NHA network by the containers of NATO & ISAF, he disclosed that such heavy transportation has considerably damaged the roads and the loss is calculated upto Rs. 6 Billion till now.
He informed the participants that NHA is implementing a gigantic National Trade Corridor (NTC) programme, under which International Standard Highways and Motorways linking with ports and borders are being completed. In the coming 5-6 years Rs. 300 Billion will be spent on this programme. Continuing he said, Dora Pass Project at height of 7000 feet will also be undertaken to provide access with Tajikistan and onward Central Asia Republics.
