ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza on Thursday had to defer number of agenda items due to controversy on Sacked Employees (Reinstatement) Bill and absence of Minister of State for Finance, Hina Rabbani Khar. The Speaker in consultation with the House and Chief Whip Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah deferred both the Calling Attention Notice and three bills for another day after the PML-N has boycotted the House proceedings.

PML-N politician and Leader of the Opposition, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had raised objection on passage of the Sacked Employees (Reinstatement) Bill though other opposition parties as well as the coalition partners hailed this bill. Nisar, after presenting his view point, announced to boycott the proceedings and walked out of the House along with his party members.

Though substantive reply came from Minister for Labor Syed Khursheed Ahmed and later by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and subsequent efforts was made to bring them back to the House, yet to no avail. The speakers urged the government to send a strong message to NATO forces regarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and devise a clear strategy in consultation with the members to avert such acts in future.-SANA
