80% of Charter of Democracy provisions implemented: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday informed National Assembly that the government has implemented 80% provisions of the Charter of Democracy (CoD). He said elaborating on his party’s manifesto and the commitment made with the nation in CoD:

“The CoD is the vision of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif and the government is committed to implement this charter prepared after hard work of years,”

The Prime Minister said internationally two criteria determine the performance of a government; vote of masses and manifesto of the party. He said this is an elected House where intentions matter more than the number and congratulated the coalition government for effectively moving forward in implementing the manifesto and CoD.

He said when Benazir Bhutto was facing the PIA case against her I was also facing a case for giving employment to unemployed and educated youth.

“I was not even enjoying any remission during my confinement as provided to other prisoners on various grounds. This way my five year sentence was almost double as compared to other prisoners who enjoyed remissions.”

He said Benazir Bhutto had stated that if giving employment is a crime, we shall commit this crime again and again. “We stand by her saying and continue giving jobs to unemployed. This is a noble cause.” He reiterated that the coalition government shall continue exploring job opportunities. “We are not afraid of anyone. I am happy that we all are united on this issue.”-SANA
