Supreme Court adjourns RPP case hearing

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry during hearing of the case on rental power projects said that the Asian Development Bank has also criticized the projects. Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) leader in the National Assembly Faisal Saleh Hayat, who was one of the petitioners, said that the Rental Power Projects scandal will expose 50 more scams.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, hearing a suo moto notice coupled with pleas regarding allegations of corruption in RPPs. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry during the hearing said the huge investment in projects couldn’t achieve the required results. He questioned the transparency of the agreements.

Director Finance PEPCO informed the court that Rs 18 billion were given in advance for the projects and the three RPPs are generating 150 megawatts electricity. PML-Q leader Faisal Saleh Hayat submitted documents to substantiate alleged corruption in the projects. The court later adjourned hearing of the case till tomorrow (Thursday)-SANA
