Strict action will be taken if sugar is proved of sub standard: Minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower Syed Khursheed Shah said that action should be taken against what he said black sheep if 95,000 ton Indian imported sugar would prove of low-standard. He said that the Pakistan Standard Quality Authority (PSQA) has obtained sugar samples adding that sugar price might decrease as sugar crushing seasons is going to be started in November.

On Tuesday in the National Assembly, he said while talking on the calling attention notice that news about sugar import from any other country was not true. The sugar was directly purchased from India and PSQA has obtained its sample, but sugar in the Market will not be allowed until the PSQA permitted, he remarked.

He said they didn’t responsible for the acts of Mafia and bureaucrats and sugar Mafia was involved in the price hike of the sugar. He claimed that per kg sugar price in Karachi has declined from Rs. 80 to Rs. 75 while tender for 25000-ton sugar has been obtained and more tender for 25000-ton sugar would be taken on October 7.

He said that per kg sugar price would be reduced to Rs 70, 71 due to the availability of more sugar in the market. He added that wrong actions of any one would not be defended and black sheep will not allow for selling low-standard sugar. He said that sugar crane price for 40 kg would be Rs 200 and expectedly crushing season would be started in 1 November.-SANA
