LAHORE: Chief Justice Lahore High Court has appointed Sohail Nasir as new District and Sessions Judge Lahore following dispute between Lawyers and lower Courts in Punjab while the Session Judge Zawwar Ahmad Sheikh went on four months leave. District Session Judge Lahore Zawwar Ahmad Sheikh has applied for four months leave after a dispute emerge between the Judges and lawyers.
The judges of the lower Courts have admitted the decision and announced restarting of work. However, Lawyers associations have yet not expressed reaction on the latest development. It may be recalled that Lahore District Bar Association has passed a resolution last July and demanded the transfer of Session Judge Zawwar Ahmad Sheikh due to his allegedly inappropriate attitude.
However, the lawyers strike has become intensified last week and they attacked the chamber of the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court during their protest. The Judges of the Lower Courts in Punjab had stopped their work as a reaction of the lawyers protest and presented their resignation while Chief Justice Lahore High Court rejected their resignations and asked them to perform their duties.
Meanwhile In a greater development, the judges of the subordinate judiciary in Punjab on Tuesday ended their strike after their meeting with Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Khawja Muhammed Sharif. The judges announced to resume their judicial activities from Tuesday.
According to the sources, the LHC CJ directed the judges to resolve all issued amicably and all the judges were asked to avoid giving the entire episode the political coloring. Also, the sources said the induction of new Session Judge Lahore Sohail Nasir in the office would bring forth good results. On this, the judges of subordinate judiciary withdrew their resignations and called off their strike.-SANA
