LAHORE: Countrywide protest was staged on Friday against NATO gun ships attack on Pakistan’s military post, on the appeal of the Jamaat-e-Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan. Protest rallies were held in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other major cities after the Juma prayers at which the JI leaders condemned the NATO attacks and demanded a formal protest with Washington on the matter downing of the intruding NATO helicopters and permanent stoppage of NATO supplies.
Syed Munawar Haan, while addressing the Friday congregation at Mansoora, said that the rulers were cowards but if any of them stood against the US, the JI and other religious and Jehadic organizations would face the US aggression and the US cronies and those carrying its agenda would be fully resisted. He said the NATO attack on the military post clearly implied that the so called war on terror was not Pakistan’s war, it was America’s war. He said that having been defeated in Afghanistan, the US and NATO forces had attacked their front line ally and wanted to remove the blot of defeat through these attacks in Pakistani territory.
He appreciated the stoppage of NATO supplies and said this should be a permanent step. Stressing that the enemies could never be made friends, he said, “it is a pity that we are allowing NATO to carry bombs for our own destruction”. The arms and ammunition passing into Afghanistan on our roads were now being used against this nation. He said the elements supporting drone attacks should give an explanation for the attacks on our military post and the martyrdom of three soldiers.
He also condemned the CIA Chief‘s statement warning of preemptive strikes in case of a threat and said this was an insult to the 180 million Pakistanis. He said this man deserved to be declared persona non grata and deported from the country. JI central leader Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, addressed the rally staged at Multan Road, He said Pakistan was the only country that had permitted the colonial power to kill its citizens. He said the Jehadic spirit alone could save this country and unite the nation. -SANA
