Authorities in Lahore detain protesting lawyers

LAHORE: Police in Lahore on Friday detained some protesting lawyers who came on the streets to protest out side Aiwan-e-Adal against arrests of their colleagues. Reports reached here said that the police fired teargas shell and baton charged the lawyers and then nabbed several lawyers. Some police officers and lawyers received injuries during the scuffle who were later shifted to city’s hospital for treatment.

It may be recalled that on Thursday some angry lawyers attacked Chief Justice’s office and smashed its windowpanes besides setting on fire an effigy of the Sessions Judge in Lahore High Court (LHC). It is to be mentioned here that the lawyers of District Bar Lahore have been protesting against what they alleged the non-cooperative attitude of District and Session Judge Zawwar Ahmed Shaikh. The lawyers vowed to keep their protest on till the transfer of District and Sessions Judge Zawwar.-SANA
