ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has clarified Tuesday that the time till October 13 given by the Supreme Court to the government is not the result of any deal, adding the army and the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) are supporters of the democracy. In an interview with a private television channel, the PM said the government was having good relation with the Establishment.
He said releasing Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the presence of the former President Pervez Musharraf was a risk but the government took it. To a query, he said the Army and the ISI were the supporters of democracy and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was having good ties with them.
He urged all the state institutions to function within their own limits. Gilani maintained the government respected the judiciary and the time given by the apex court in Swiss case was not the result of any deal. Gilani clarified that no clash existed between the government and the judiciary. He said the government believed in the supremacy of the Constitution and the Parliament. He said 27 out of 32 recommendations of the Charter of Democracy had been implemented. -SANA
