GENEVA: Kashmiri representative and the leader of APHC-AJK, Altaf Hussain Wani, has denounced the use of brute force against the innocent people of Jammu and Kashmir by Indian troops to muzzle their just voice for right to self-determination. Altaf Hussain Wani, addressing a conference in Geneva, said that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved according to the relevant United Nations resolutions. “The UN resolutions are consensus document according to which Kashmir is a disputed territory,” he added.
He urged India to revoke all draconian laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Public Safety Act and Disturbed Areas Act from the occupied territory, which provided impunity to the troopers to kill innocent people. ”These black laws are contrary to the international human rights norms and facilitate rights abuses in the territory,” he maintained.
Terming Indian government’s claim that Kashmir is an integral part of India as illogical, immoral and contrary to international norms, he said that the occupation authorities had muffed the right to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression in the occupied Valley. Altaf Wani said,
“Kashmiris are being subjected by India to repression since 1947. Custodial killings, torture, harassments and arbitrary detention are order of the day in the valley. The occupation forces have encroached schools, hospitals, public parks and fruit gardens.”
Pointing out that Kashmir valley has virtually been turned into prison, Altaf Wani said that during the current agitation since June 11 till date, over 109 innocent people had been killed by the occupation forces most of them children of 8 to 17 years age. “Continued curfew and restrictions have paralysed the life of the inhabitants,” he added.
