Letter against President cannot be dispatched to Swiss government: Asma

ISLAMABAD: Member of National Assembly (MNA) Asma Arbab Alamgir has said that the government cannot dispatch letter to the Swiss government against President Asif Ali Zardari, as he enjoys immunity according to the constitution. Talking to a private TV channel, Asma Arbab said the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) cases cannot also be reopened against the President.
She said the NRO beneficiaries are belonging to all the political parties of country, adding the action should be taken against all those. The Member of National Assembly reiterated Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani’s remark that “the President is the supreme commander of all armed forces.”
Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said the government is obeying the SC verdict on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) except a minor portion of it relating to Swiss cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, who had immunity in this regard.
To a question, Kaira said that a section of the press is engaged in spreading rumours against the present government.”I am not blaming the whole media as media has played a very positive role for the restoration of democracy in the country.” He said the credibility of this section of the press is at stake as the people are well aware of its tactics.-APP
