Educational Institutions, Hospitals to be planned properly

KARACHI: Keeping in view the haphazard growing tendency of unplanned facilities in educational institutions and hospitals, the Minister Local Govt./ Chief Executive, KBCA Mr. Agha Siraj Khan Durrani had directed the KBCA to submit proposal through which better facilities and planning could be achieved. Considering the fact, the Chief Controller of Buildings Mr. Manzoor Qadir has suggested the enhancement of floor area ratio in the plots meant for educational institutions approved from HEC Pakistan and hospitals / clinics.

Considering the demand and need of the general public it is decided to facilitate the owners/sponsors of the public buildings accordingly the Minister Local Government / Chief Executive, KBCA has approved the proposal and amendments in KB&TPR-2002, through which the floor area ratio over amenity plot has been enhanced from 1:1.5 to 1:6 for educational institution chartered by the Govt. of Sindh and hospital / clinics.

Such amendments would definitely discourage the haphazard development of educational institution and hospitals within the city of Karachi. Further more keeping in view the matter of applicability of rear COS for commercial building it has been amended that the requirement of COS above 30ft. is exempted if the building abuts 40ft. wide road at rear.
