Militants firing on check post violate peace accord: ISPR

ISLAMABAD: Militants in Swat, in gross violation of peace accord, continued firing at various check posts of security forces in Kanju, Saidu Sharif, Matta and other areas of Swat. Militants have planted IEDs in various areas of Swat to inflict causalities on Security Forces and civilians.

On Tuesday, two Security forces personnel embraced Shahadat due to militants firing at Mingora Grid Station. Six security forces personnel were injured due to militants firing in various areas of Swat. On Wednesday, two soldiers embraced shahadat due to an IED blast in Bahrain, Swat.

Armed militants have come down from their hideouts into the cities and have occupied civil houses and government buildings. Militants looted three Banks in Mingora city and have occupied the offices of DIG Police and Commissioner at Mingora. Exchange of fire took place between militants and Police at Saidu Sharif and Matta Police Station. Reportedly two militants were killed.

Security forces were being targeted from Emerald Mines. In retaliatory fire thirty five militants were killed around Emerald Mines at Takhtaband Bypass.

While according to sources the militants have captured the offices of Commissioner and DIG of Malakand Division and also surrounded the Commissioner, DIG House and other important buildings. The militants dispersed in Mingora city and took control of the whole city after a brief relaxation in curfew.

They attacked the important headquarter of security forces, Circuit House and Saidu Sharif Police Station with heavy weapons. Both sides used heavy arms in the battle due to which an ISI embraced Shahadat in Saidu Sharif Police Station.

The security forces had imposed curfew in the city and tightened the security at entrance exit routes.
As many as 23 people including 3 militants had been killed during the clashes between the militants and security forces. On the other hand, more than 50 thousand people left the city due the trouble situation there. NNI
