Karachi violence claims 23 lives; 22 injured

KARACHI: Twenty Three people havebeen killed and twenty two are injured as in an armed clash between two groups in different places of Karachi. Nine vehicles were set on fire while the injured also included personnel of rangers and police. According to sources, violence erupted when two armed groups opened fire at each other in Ajmer Nagri area. Three persons were killed and many others injured including the policemen and personnel of rangers.

The rangers are combing the area as gunshots continue to be heard in the area.Nine vehicles including passenger busses and a crane were set ablaze in the ensuing violence.

Security forces arrested 21 persons during a search operation launched in Khawaja Ajmir Nagri. Besides, more violence incidents were reported in Samanabad, Al-Asif Square and Hyderi.

Sindh Government has announced that all academic institutions will remain closed today while the intermediate examination paper scheduled for Thursday has also been postponed. The announcement came in the wake of violent incidents in most of the parts of the city on Wednesday in which many people were killed and several others injured. The new date of the intermediate paper will be announced later. The paper of ninth class under Sindh Technical Board has also been called off.
