LAHORE:President, Pakistan boxing federation Doda Khan Bhutto on Friday presented a cash award of Rs 50,000 to promising boxer Muhammad Waseem at Karachi for winning bronze medals in Thailand and Turkey recently. Waseem won first bronze in 31st kings cup boxing tournament held in Bangkok following by a similar medal performance in an international boxing Tournament in Istanbul.
Doda Khan visited the national training camp currently in progress at national training and coaching centre Karachi and presented the cash award to Waseem to acknowledge his performance in two back to back tournaments. Secretary PBF Muhammad Akram, former Asian gold medallist and Olympian boxer Syed Abrar Hussain, now the Chairman Technical and training commission,PBF, and former Olympic & A.I.B.A referee Syed Akber Ali (Chairman,PBF Referee Judge Commission) were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion,PBF chief said the national federation will give more cash incentives to those boxers who will put up medal winning performance in international tournaments home and aborad.
As many as 25 boxers are attending the national camp under the coaching of Ali Bux , Adul Mjeed Barohi , Muhammad liaqat and Arshad Hussain and 12 will be selected to undergo 45 days training in South Korea. “ PBF has a collective cause to revive boxing on solid lines under a long term plan in the country and we will be taking all out measures to achieve this objective “,he said.
He hoped that training in South Korea will help in raising the overall standard of boxing and Pakistani boxers will be learning finer points of the game from Korean coaches.“ We want to generate maximum activity, specially at grass root level to unearth fresh talent and it is the only way to put boxing on the right track“, he said.-APP
