New comprehensive Education Policy to fulfill needs of time: PM

LARKANA: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said Saturday that a comprehensive education policy would be given soon and stressed that education is important for the efforts to rid the society of extremism and terrorism. Addressing the 17th Parents Day of Cadet College Larkana, he said the policy would be in line with the needs of the time in the field of education.

He said no nation could develop without focus on education, adding that health care and education were the present government’s top priorities. Gilani said that federal ministers for health and education, who both belong to this region, were employing all their capabilities day and night to produce results in their respective spheres.

The PM said the foundation of Cadet College Larkana was laid about 35 to 40 years ago by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and it was inaugurated by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

He said he was happy to know that some 500 cadets were acquiring education here from the interior Sindh. Announcing Rs 150 million for the Cadet College the Prime Minister said, “I am impressed by the discipline of this College.” More such cadet colleges will be established in remote areas of Pakistan, he said.

The PM also announced Rs two million for the hostel of the cadet college and Rs 10,000 each for outstanding cadets who secured positions in academic and co?curricular activities. Gilani said the present government is providing scholarships for every field of education including natural sciences.

He impressed upon the cadets to take full benefit of the scholarships.The PM said that extra?curricular activities breed a healthy society and should be promoted. He said he was very happy to visit Larkana because it was the city of Shaheeds (martyrs). It gave birth to great personalities who by dint of their handwork got recognition in the world.

The Prime Minister said the land of Sindh has a very rich history. This land as well as Multan are about 5,000?years old. In that era Multan used to be the capital of this region. He said even today he is making efforts for the development of this area on behalf of the capital.

Earlier the Prime Minister gave away 31 shields, cash awards and trophies to the cadets who achieved top positions in Board examinations and extra?curricular activities. Principal Cadet College Larkana Shaikh Muhammad Yousuf presented the Prime Minister with a memento of the College, a set of College publications and a shield as memento of his visit.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Labour Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Ms Faryal Talpur MNA, Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Provincial ministers, MPAs, Parliamentary Secretaries and parents of the cadets were also present. Prime Minister Gilani also recorded his impressions in the visitors’ book.-APP
