PESHAWAR: At least 20 people were killed including 18 security personnel and 15 injured when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden vehicle into a convoy passing by a police checkpost in Doaba some 40 km off Hangue District.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Hangu told APP that the bomber riding a vehicle hit the security forces convoy while passing by the police checkpost near Doaba Police Station, resultantly 20 persons including two civilians and 18 security officials were martyred and 15 others injured.
The bomber targeted the convoy comprising 11 vehicles, the DSP added. The injured included eight security officials and seven civilians. The injured were immediately shifted to CMH Kohat who included SHO Doaba Police Station Aimal Khan. The police party rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire area. The checkpost and some vehicles were damaged as a result of the blast.
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday strongly condemned the suicide attack at a checkpost in Hangu, that killed security personnel and injured several others. The Prime Minister said the perpetrators of such heinous crime would not be spared and condoled with the families of the deceased security personnel.
Terming the suicide attack a cowardly act of terrorism, the Prime Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to stamp out the menace of terrorism and extremism from the country by dealing terrorists with an iron hand. He directed the concerned authorities to investigate the incident and apprehend the perpetrators forthwith. The Prime Minister also directed the hospital authorities to provide maximum medical facilities to the injured and prayed for their speedy recovery. APP
