SANYA (China): Minister of State for Information Sumsam Ali Shah Bukhari Friday said the US 5.28 billion dollars in pledges by the international community speaks of the success of the policies and the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari.
Talking to reporters here in the China’s resort city of Hainan province, where he is to accompany the President at the Boao Forum for Asia, the minister said Pakistan managed to get the pledges that are aimed at stabilising the country’s economy, affected deeply with its long struggle against extremists and terrorists.
The minister said the development partners pledged new financing of over US $ 5 billion for Pakistan over the next two years to provide additional support to social safety nets, human development and pro?poor development expenditures.
He said it was besides their commitment to existing programs that currently total more than $ 15 billion dollar for the on?going and medium?term development initiatives aimed at helping Pakistan reduce poverty and enhance economic growth.
Sumsam Bukhari said the Tokyo donors’ conference was attended by representatives of 31 countries and 18 international organizations and agencies and reflected strong international support to Pakistan and its development strategy.-APP
