President authorizes NWFP Governor to promulgate NAR

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has authorized the governor NWFP to promulgate the Nizam-e-Adal Regulation 2009 after the passage of a unanimous resolution by the Parliament Monday. The President inked his approval to the resolution, ensuring the supremacy of the constitution and Parliament. The President had referred the matter to the Prime Minister for debate in the Parliament. The peace agreement was signed between Provincial Government of NWFP and Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi, on February 16.

Earlier, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani congratulated the National Assembly on the passage of the resolution. He said that by supporting the implementation of the agreement signed by the provincial government, the National Assembly was respecting the mandate, desire and the will of the Provincial Government.

The Regulation provides for Nifaz Shariat-e-Muhammadi through courts in the Provincially Administered Tribal Areas of the NWFP except the Tribal Area adjoining Mansehra district and the former State of Amb. The Regulation was submitted to the President by the NWFP Governor and the President had asked the Prime Minister to lay it before the Parliament considering it expedient for supremacy of the Parliament.

While talking to Syed Alauddin, MNA from Swat at his Parliament House Chamber, the Prime Minister expressed the hope that enforcement of Nizam?e?Adl in Swat would bring peace and tranquility to the area. The MNA thanked the Prime Minister for his efforts in the unanimous passage of the Nizam?e?Adl resolution in National Assembly.

He informed the Prime Minister that Nizam?e?Adl was a long standing demand of the people of Swat and they were highly appreciative for Prime Minister’s support in this regard. Syed Alauddin also briefed the Prime Minister about the destruction in Swat area and on the status of IDPs.
