Wave of resentment and anguish prevailed on girl flogging

LAHORE: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Saturday said the wave of utter resentment and anguish prevailed throughout the country on public flogging of a girl in Swat. Briefly talking to media here at a bookshop in Defence area where he had gone along with his family to buy books, he said that he has ordered the authorities to inquire into the incident and submit a report.

He said Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken suo moto notice of this ugly incident and ministry of women will become party to this case so that real culprits involved in this heinous crime must be brought to justice.

Replying to a question, he categorically said, “No one will be allowed to use Pakistan’s soil for acts of terrorism”. He said media, civil society and political parties must collectively help government to stamp out the menace of terror from the country. Responding to another question,he said that there is no crack in the fold of PPP and PML (N) as both political parties struggled a lot for the promotion of democracy and strengthening of democratic system of government in the country.

The Prime Minister strongly condemned the shameful happening and said that such incidents tarnish the country’s image. He said the incident was contrary to the Islamic principles, as our religion teaches us to treat the women politely and gently. The Prime Minister said the government believes in the rights of women and will continue to take every measure to protect their rights.-APP
