Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Sunday said that previous set?up of PML-N and PPP power sharing in Punjab will continue to serve the masses, subject to the decision of the Supreme Court in review petition. Talking to media jointly at Jati Umra, Raiwind Road here after meeting with former Prime Minister and PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif, he said, otherwise the political party enjoying majority will be asked to form government in Punjab. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani met with PML-N leadership on Sunday as part of a bid to foster reconciliation between the two parties in the wake of the long march.
He said that whatever the decision of the apex court in review petition will be acceptable. He appreciated the goodwill/positive gesture shown by Nawaz Sharif for moving ahead towards implementation of Charter of Democracy in future. He said he met Nawaz Sharif on the advise of President Asif Ali Zardari for improving working relations and understanding.
He said “we want to serve the poor segment of the society under Charter of Democracy”. The country is facing challenges of terrorism, economy, unemployment, power shortage and development, which are required to be addressed on top priority, he added. The situation demands reconciliation, as the country faces many challenges; the worsening economy, political stability and terrorism.’
The Prime Minister said the government want to work together for the welfare of the people and progress of the country on the previous pattern. He said “we want to run the business of the government on the basis of Charter of Democracy, which was signed by PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and Nawaz Sharif”.
He said that for better working relations, the federal government has filed a review petition with Supreme Court of Pakistan for reinstatement of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani greeted President Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, civil society, lawyers, media and other cross section of the society for restoration of the deposed judges. He said justice based system will bring positive change in the country.
Responding to a question regarding the menace of terrorism, he said dialogue, development and deterrence are three different tools to address terrorism. He said that US is also reviewing its policy in this regard “and we too in Pakistan.” He said “In order to strengthen the democracy in the country, quick welfare of the people and development across the country, we will follow the Charter of Democracy without any hurdle. In response to a question, the prime minister said “I am extremely against the Governor rule in Punjab”.
Speaking on the occasion Nawaz Sharif said “He is not against President Asif Ali Zardari, if Charter of Democracy is implemented in letter and spirit, Asif Ali Zardari is our President and Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani is our Prime Minister”. He categorically announced, he is ready to co?operate with government to work together. He said that power is not his destination, he just wants to work for the betterment of the down trodden.Nawaz Sharif said his party firmly believed in rule of law, supremacy of the Constitution and repeal of 17th amendment. He said “we welcome the Prime Minister who has come to us for reconciliation”.
Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, MPA son of Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Chaudhry Nisar Ali, Khawaja Asif, Hamza Shahabaz Sharif and other PML leaders were present at the briefing.
