ISLAMABAD, Mar 19 (APP): A crucial meeting between premier Gilani and PML?N President Shahbaz Sharif as part of reconciliatory efforts is expected soon, Peoples Party’s new information secretary Fozia Wahab told media on Thursday. She was addressing her first press conference, after taking over charge as PPP spokesperson, here at party secretariat.
Pakistan Peoples Party has never believed in the politics of conflict and was committed to political reconciliation for development of the country, besides strengthening the democratic institutions. We have always worked for consensus and coherence among all the political stake?holders, said Fozia Wahab.
She said PPP respected public demand and resolved long standing issue of judiciary restoration, which had embroiled people in an unnecessary state of conflict and confrontation. “It was the generosity and open mindedness of the PPP government that it put away all differences and resolved the issue, though the opposition left no stone unturned to malign our leadership and to create differences among them,” she said.
We salute President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani’s magnanimity in respecting public demand and continuing the process of re?conciliation. We expect that our gestures will be reciprocated in the same spirit by the opposition.
She said that propaganda of rift between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani was baseless and both have been playing their due role on prime national interest matters. Diversity of views does not necessarily have to be considered dissent and rebellion, she remarked.
She reminded that all the cases against Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif were not initiated by PPP, while all the cases against Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari were instituted by the PML?N government. “Previously they used to call Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto as a security risk to Pakistan and singled her out from the rest of the party. Currently they are using the same tactics to differentiating the Co?Chairman from the remainder of the party,” Ms. Wahab said.
“There have been numerous attempts to break the PPP, yet the party has bounced back on every occasion and remains intact on every level,” she added. Ms Wahab said that one year record of PPP government speaks volume of our commitment, be it the election of the prime minister, the election of the four chief ministers, the election of the chairman senate.
Regarding media, the party believes in freedom of the expression, however; it recommends to do soul searching and create a code of conduct for the media organisations. “We don’t want things to get to a level when secret recordings will be made like the infamous Tehelka.com in India,” she said. Fozia Wahab thanked PPP co?chairman Asif Ali Zardari for nominating her as information secretary.
