ISLAMABAD: Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey in a telephonic call to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday condoled the deaths of innocent people in the terrorist incident in Pir Wadhai, Rawalpindi on March 16, 2009. He condemned the incident strongly and conveyed sympathises and commiserations of Turkish people and the government to the bereaved families and people of Pakistan. Prime Minister Erdogan offered his government’s unequivocal support to the struggle against extremism and terrorism.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani while reaffirming his government’s commitment to eradicate this menace from Pakistani soil thanked his Turkish counterpart for the kind sentiments and unwavering support.
Prime Minister Erdogan expressed his satisfaction on the traditional cordial fraternal ties between Turkey and Pakistan and thanked Begum Fouzia Yousuf Raza Gilani’s support for making the recently held Istanbul Conference on Gaza and Palestine a success, through her active participation in the event.
He also referred to his useful meeting with the Prime Minister in World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos which helped add new impetus to the bilateral ties. The Prime Minister thanked him and requested him to convey to Mrs Erdogan, his and Begum Fouzia Gilani’s gratitude for the kind hospitality accorded to the latter and her delegation during their visit to Istanbul for attending the Conference.
The Prime Minister stated that Pakistan remained resolutely determined to take the excellent bilateral ties between the two countries to new heights by focusing on increased exchanges at all levels. He invited Prime Minister Erdogan pay an official visit to Pakistan in the near future. Prime Minister Erdogan thanked the Prime Minister and accepted the invitation. It was agreed that the timeframe of the visit would be decided through mutual consultations.-SANA
