Explore new horizons of education for better future: Kaira

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs & Northern Areas, Mr. Qamar Zaman Kaira has emphasized upon the students to explore new horizons of education so that they could steer the country out of confronting challenges in a befitting manner. He was addressing at the 6th convocation of Muhammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad here Thursday.

The Minister congratulated the students on their academic achievements. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts and contribution of the University in the field of higher education. He also said that in the present day scenario, education does not end with acquiring a degree; it is a life long affair exploring new horizons, and broadening of the vision, marching on a never-ending journey towards new frontiers of knowledge.

He further added, the government resolves to continuously support and patronize the higher education. And in this connection the present government is committed to extend full support to universities and R&D organizations.

The Federal Minister awarded 41 medals which including twenty one Gold, eleven Silver and eight Bronze medals, to the graduates who stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their respective degree programs. A ‘Jinnah Gold Medal’ was also awarded to Miss Farah Zamir Butt as an over all best graduate of the University.

Dr. Ishfaq Ahmed while addressing the audience, said that the role of higher education becomes more prominent and wide ranging. In the present times, we do not only need just the conventional types of education. We are now faced with challenges of different types and it is the higher education which plays a key role in determining the position of a nation in today’s knowledge driven economy. It guarantees sustainable progress and assures a place of respect to both individuals and nations.

Earlier in his welcome address, Dr. M. Mansoor Ahmed, Executive Vice President congratulated the graduates and highlighted the contribution made by the University in the field of higher education. He informed that the University has earned a prominent position amongst its competitors by putting high emphasis on R&D activity and its graduate programs.-SANA
